To Daffodils

Fair daffodills, we weep to see
You haste away so soon:
As yet the early-rising Sun
Has not attained his Noon.
Stay, stay,
Until the hasting day
Has run
But to the Even-song;
And, having prayed together, we
Will go with you along.
We have short time to stay, as you,
We have as short a Spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
As you, or any thing.
We die,
As your hours do, and dry
Away,
Like to the Summer"s rain;
Or as the pearls of Morning"s dew
Ne"er to be found again.

어여쁜 수선화야, 그처럼 빨리 떠나는
네 모습 보니 눈물이 나는구나.
아침 해 비록 일찍 떠올랐으나
아직 중천에 이르지 못했거늘
가지 마라, 가지 마
마음 바쁜 하루해가
저녁 기도 시간까지
달릴 때까지라도.
그때가 되면 우리 같이 기도하고
함께 떠나면 되지 않겠니.
우리도 너처럼 머무는 시간이 짧단다.
우리의 봄도 길지 않아.
순식간에 자라 곧 쇠하여 버리기는
너나 다른 것들과 마찬가지지.
우리도 죽는단다.
네가 시간이 다 되어 시들어
떠나듯이
여름날 비처럼
혹은 진주 같은 아침이슬처럼
흔적도 없이 사라지고 말지. | |
