카터패밀리야 말로 미국 포크뮤직과
컨트리뮤직 역사에서 빼놓을수 없는 전설적인 그룹이다.
이들은 컨트리뮤직의 아버지라는 지미 로저스와함께
1927년 최초의 상업적인 컨트리 레코드를 내어
컨트리뮤직의 어머니란 명예를 안았다.
특히 멤버중 대들보격인 메이블 카터 의 톡특한 기타연주법은
포크와 컨트리뮤직발전에지대한 영향을 끼쳤는데
쳇애킨스도 내쉬빌에 정착하기 이전에 이들을 따라 다니며
음악경력을 쌓았고 피아니스트 플로이드 클레머도
피아노의 저음사용 주법을 바로 메이블 기타의
기타연주법에서 도입한것으로 알려지고 있다.
카터 패밀리음악은 1920년대 30년대 의 고전 적인 컨트리뮤직의
패턴을 대변해주는 것으로 미국 교회의 찬송가
가창 스타일과 민요가 좋은 조화를
이루고 있다.
전설적인 트리오라 불리우는이들은 3대를 이어져
내려오는 전통의 가족그룹으로
그 명성이 빛을 잃지 않고 있다.
